At the 17th International Chromosome Conference, ........

Sign-In: Pick up your materials for the conference from noon to 8pm.

 
23rd June 2009

Sign-In: You will be able to sign-in and pick up your conference materials from 8am to 10am on the 23rd before the opening of the conference.

Carolina-Style Barbecue: The first night of the conference kicks off with a BBQ held from 6:30 to 10pm. Please sign-up for this event on the registration site. The cost for the barbecue is $24.

Special musical guests for the barbecue are local musicians Steve and Ruth Smith. The Smiths specialize in Celtic Appalachian music performed on hammered dulcimer and guitar. Samples of their music can be found at: http://www.myspace.com/steveandruthsmith & http://www.steveandruth.com/index.htm

ICGS Meeting: Members of ICGS are encouraged to attend. Held from 5 to 6pm.

Banquet: The conference ends with a banquet held from 7pm to 10pm. Please sign-up for this event on the registration site. The cost for the banquet is $35. A vegeterian option will also be available for $35.

 
23rd - 26th June 2009

Lunch: The Broyhill will have box lunches available for purchase. The local "Appalcart" bus service will also be available for transportation to restaurant areas for lunch and dinner. See the travel page for more details concerning bus service within Boone.

 

 

OPPORTUNITIES AFTER THE CONFERENCE

While you are in the area, why not take the opportunity to ride the rapids, climb a mountain or see the sites? There will be several different tour operators who will be available to describe their tours and the cost. You will be able to register with their companies at the conference.

Kitty Hawk, the site of the first powered flight, is on the coast of North Carolina and is ~380 miles from Boone (driving directions). http://www.nps.gov/wrbr/
Grandfather Mountain is the tallest peak in northern North, Carolina reaching nearly 6,000 ft (1800 meters). http://www.grandfather.com/
The Cherokee Nation Reservation is in the mountains of southwest North Carolina, and they have many events for tourists to enjoy. "Unto These Hills" is an outdoor drama that explores Cherokee history. http://www.cherokee-nc.com/
