WELCOME TO BOONE, NORTH CAROLINA!

Boone is located in northwest North Carolina in Watauga County. The city sits at an altitude of about 3,300 feet (~1000m) in the Blue Ridge Mountains part of the southern Appalachian Mountains. Boone is aproximately 80 miles (130kM) northwest of Charlotte, NC which is the location of the nearest international airport.

Summers in Boone are mild with daytime temperatures in June averaging 75F (24C) and nights averaging 57F (14C). Boone is a tourist destination with many things to do for the whole family. In and around Boone, there are many opportunities for outdoor activities and local color. There are opportunities for rock climbing, hiking, canoeing and whitewater rafting.

The 17th International Chromosome Conference will be held near the campus of Appalachian State University. Appalachian State University has a student body of around 15,000 students.
