Airline Travel:

Non-stop air service is available to the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport from major U.S. and European cities.  A complete list can be found at: http://www.charmeck.org/Departments/Airport/About+CLT/Nonstop+Cities.htm

  • U.S. Airways offers non-stop flights from London, Paris and Munich, among other cities.
  • Lufthansa flies from several cities non-stop to Charolotte.
  • Check for other direct flights.

PLEASE NOTE! The food court in the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport cannot be accessed after you leave the secured area. Luggage pick-up is out of the secured area. If you want to get something to eat or visit one of the stores in the airport, you must do it BEFORE you leave the secured area to pick up your luggage.

 

Rental Car Information:

  • Several rental car companies rent cars at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
  • Rental cars are also available in Boone through Enterprise. Please note, however, that any vehicle rented from Enterprise in Boone, North Carolina must be returned within North Carolina.

 

Driving Directions from Charlotte-Douglas International Airport to Broyhill Inn:

  • For travel information by rental or private vehicle, you can also go to the website maps.appstate.edu. For highway information from Charlotte to Boone, click on "Wide Area Map & Driving Directions". The Charlotte-Douglas International Airport is west of the city, between the city and Interstate-485. To Find the Broyhill Inn & Conference Center, on the maps page, click on "Interactive Campus Map", then click on "AE Arts and Events". The Broyhill Inn & Conference Center is on the upper left side of the map.

 

Chartered Bus Shuttle Service to Boone from the Charlotte Airport:

For those who chose not to rent a vehicle, shuttle service will be available from the Charlotte airport to Boone on June 22, 2009. To reserve a spot on the bus, please sign up for it on the registration site and send Ms. Elizabeth DeVivo your airline flight number and arrival time. Her e-mail is devivoej@appstate.edu. The cost is $30. Scheduled times for June 22 at 4 pm & 8 pm

NOTE! If your plane comes in either after 8:00 or is delayed, there are other transportation options available that are not associated with the conference that you can arrange:

Chartered Bus Shuttle Service from Boone to the Charlotte Airport:

Shuttle service will be available from Boone to Charlotte airport on June 27th & 28th for an additional fee of $30. Scheduling will be available at the conference. Times for June 27 and June 28 are 7 AM and 11 AM. If you are staying in Boone past 11 AM for additional events on Sunday June 28th, you will need to make other arrangements for travel to the Charlotte airport. Several car rental opportunities as well as cab service options are available. Please see above.

 

Bus Shuttle Service Within Boone:

  • The local "Appalcart" bus service will be available for transportation around town including restaurants and some hotels. The in town bus routes are free. Please follow the link for more information about routes and maps.
  • In addition, there will be free shuttle service available only to and from the Fairfield Inn & Suites and Comfort Suites.

 

Foreign Visitors:

  • Currently, a visa is not needed for UK or EU residents traveling to the US for less than 90 days. However, starting Januray 12, 2009 EU citizens are required to get a travel authorization on-line
    (http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/travel/id_visa/esta/).

  • If you are traveling to the US from another country, please be sure of your requirements and apply for your visa early!

  • Be sure to exchange your currency either before you leave or when you arrive at the Charlotte Airport. There are NO currency exchange booths (or banks capable of currency exchange) anywhere in Boone. However, ATMs are located on campus and in town (although not at hotels).
  • Voltage converters are not provided in the rooms, so please bring one to convert to USA 120V for any electrical equipment you will be bringing.
