My name is Jennifer
Owen. I’m 25 years old and am a Colorado native. I
graduated from Fort Collins High School in 1993 with the vague idea
that I
wanted to be involved in science somehow but was unsure about the specifics.
Microbiology, Genetics, and Chemistry were my favorite high school
classes.
I was blessed with wonderful, inspiring teachers who encouraged me
to
continue in that direction. I attended Colorado College, in Colorado
Springs
for a year and a half and then transferred to CSU. Now I am approaching
graduation (Fall 2000) with a degree in Biochemistry.
I was given the opportunity to start working for Dr. Lianne Pilon-Smits
and
Dr. Marinus Pilon in the summer of ‘99 and have really enjoyed everything
I
have learned so far. I’m confident that science is the right place
for me
afterall. Although some of the work is tedious and the results sometime
make
me want to scream, in general research stimulates and satisfies an
innate
curious nature that I’ve had all my life.
